7 Women on What International Women’s Day Means To Them

March 8th is International Women’s Day and Frenshe is proud to celebrate all the women who have made this vibrant community into what it is. We talked to seven women about womanhood means to them and how they honor the women in their lives everyday.

“I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by strong women my entire life; it’s thanks to their love and support that I’m able to be my best self and build this community. I feel women can do anything because we’re so resilient and there’s a certain type of internal strength to women.”

Ashley Tisdale, Frenshe Founder

“International Women’s Day is an opportunity for me to reflect on who I am as a woman and to celebrate the most important woman in my life: my mother. Her constant support, nurture, and resilience helped shaped me into the woman I am today. I think of this day as a reminder myself to continue to uplift, support and motivate other women because I truly believe that when women support each other, incredible things happen.”

Queenie Nguyen, Nail Artist

“As we’re celebrating women today, I’m thinking about all the ways that we can continue to support marginalized women around the world. Despite the progress that we’ve made in the world, there are women who can continue to use our support in the fight for equal education and healthcare. I’m proud to stand alongside the many incredible female activists who continue to fight for women’s rights.”

It means being really damn proud to be a woman, celebrating each other, and owning the essence of who we are in the most confident way.”

— Melissa Wood-Tepperberg, Founder of Melissa Wood Health

“This International Women’s Day, I’m reflecting on how so many leaders in the climate justice movement are women—not just the incredible Greta Thunberg, but also other youth activists like Vanessa Nakate and longtime activists like Sharon Lavigne and Winona LaDuke. It makes sense to me, honestly; most women I know are excellent when in crisis mode. That, in turn, makes me feel confident that women can collectively save the planet. We can, we will, we must.”

Annie Thomplin, Frenshe Writer

“International Women’s Day is most impactful when it’s intersectional. Pay attention to Black trans women and femmes. We’ve been an integral force within the fight for women’s rights, and where they intersect with racial and economic justice, since before there was language to articulate our plight. When Black trans women are truly liberated, all of us will be.”

Ashlee Marie Preston, Activist

“Women are so divinely connected to each other in a way that feels often overlooked or seemingly unconscious. I think we often forget to pause and celebrate ourselves for all we have overcame in both our own personal lives and collectively. Today feels like a moment to center ourselves around our victories.”
