My Go-To Healthy Grocery List Items

11.02.2020 — Ashley

Grocery shopping has undoubtedly been different this year, but thankfully it’s not as stressful as it was a few months ago. I’m not committed to just one grocery store, and I love Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods as much as the next person. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I go to local markets such as Erewhon or Bristol Farms in Los Angeles, and I’ll use delivery services like Thrive Market too. However, I wanted this post to reflect on store chains that are more common throughout the country, in case you need a little inspiration for your next trip down the grocery aisle. I’m listing out what I get from Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods, while keeping in mind that some of these items last a lot longer than others. Take a look, make your list, and stock up on your favorite essentials!

Trader Joe’s

What we all love about Trader Joe’s is that TJ’s has unique items that you typically can’t find anywhere else. Because Trader Joe’s uses its own brands, you’re literally getting things that you couldn’t find anywhere else. However, you can still grab your usual protein, veggies, side dishes, and more. I like Trader Joe’s for breakfast items and veggies the most, but I can’t fail to mention that it’s one of the best places to shop for seasonal items as well. Below is what I get from TJ’s!

  • Hash browns (shredded in the frozen aisle )
  • Eggs (organic)
  • 5 Bananas
  • Chicken
  • Broccoli
  • Asparagus
  • 2 Zucchini
  • 2 orders Onions (chopped in a bag)
  • Cauliflower rice
  • 2 bags Small Potatoes
  • 3 bags of brown rice quinoa pasta
  • Avocado oil
  • Limes
  • Avocado
  • 2 bananas
  • 2 Cucumbers
  • 2 packaged tomatoes
  • 1 package of uncooked Chicken tenders

Whole Foods

Whole Foods is on the pricier side, so I think it’s a great place for stocking up on items that last a while such as seasonings and dry foods. One of the things I’ve missed the most about the typical Whole Foods experience is the hot food bar, which has changed since the pandemic was officially announced. Thankfully, you can still grab your favorite to-go prepped foods from the deli and sushi section and plate them at home. I do still get some veggies from Whole Foods, but I stick to other items for my pantry the most.
