presented in partnership with Needed
When I was pregnant with Jupiter, I did a ton of research on what to pack for the hospital—you can see that original list here. I was looking back at that list and, while I had thought of pretty much everything, turns out there were some things I didn’t even reach for! Live and learn.
Now that I’m getting ready to have baby #2, I’m packing a little bit lighter. Obviously I’ll be bringing essentials like my birth plan and insurance card, plus a few little luxuries to create a more comfortable environment for delivery and postpartum. Here are a few highlights!
Needed prenatal
I’ve been using Needed prenatal vitamins throughout this pregnancy. My doula recommended them, and I trust her 100%. For labor and delivery, I’m also bringing Needed Hydration Support to add to my water. Each packet is designed for pregnancy and postpartum, and delivers electrolytes and trace minerals including magnesium (and you know how I swear by magnesium). Birth is truly a marathon and replenishing my body is essential! Plus, the flavor is not too sweet, just right.
Being Frenshe Hair, Body & Linen Mist
I love our multi-purpose mist, especially in Palo Santo Sage. When we were developing it, I wanted a scent that was really grounding. I have been wearing this scent throughout my pregnancy—it’s forever going to be special to me because of that.
LED candles
Because overhead fluorescent lighting is NOT IT.
Mesh underwear
Really sexy stuff here, I know. Yes, hospitals usually send new moms home with a few pairs, but these are a little softer. FYI, they run a little bit small. Size up.
Instant heat pads
You never know if you’re going to experience back labor, but it’s better to be prepared in case it happens. I like the single-use kind because they take up hardly any room and work for hours.
Nursing cups
I discovered Silverette nursing cups before having Jupiter, and I kept them just in case we decided to have a second baby. They’re made out of sterling silver (which is naturally antimicrobial) and they are so soothing.
Frida Mom Hospital Kit
I recommend this all-in-one kit to first-time moms all the time, because it takes the guesswork out of packing. It includes a nursing gown, grippy socks, instant ice pads (so necessary), and a few more things in a convenient little bag.
Mini toiletries
One of the absolute BEST feelings after giving birth is taking that first warm shower while the baby sleeps. Having my own shampoo and conditioner makes it feel a little more like home. I’m also packing face wipes, dry shampoo, face cream, and hand cream.
Tiny outfits
Because what’s cuter than a newborn in a onesie?
Diapers
I can’t get over how small newborn diapers are! The hospital provides some, but I like to have some unscented ones around.
Tech essentials
Phone charger, Polaroid camera, Bluetooth speaker, and an iPad in case I want to stream something.
