It’s been proven time and time again that Black-owned beauty brands and creators are often the pioneers of the beauty industry. So many of our beloved mainstream skincare hacks, beauty trends, and hair styles originate from Black culture (even though we still have a long ways to go with inclusion and diversity). At Frenshe, we celebrate Black innovators all year round, so we’ve rounded up our all-time favorite brands in the hair, beauty, and skincare world to share with our community.
For Your Hair:
Created by the amazing Tracee Ellis Ross, whether you’re starting out on your curly journey or have been caring for textured hair your whole life, Pattern Beauty offers a variety of products to care for your hair every step of the way. Their Curl Cocktail Kit is a great starting point, but we recommend checking out their full range of products and hair tools.
Looking to get back to basics? Try The Potion Studio’s shower bundle for their shampoo and conditioner set, plus a rib brush for defined, detangled hair after every wash.
Regardless of hair type, if you struggle with broken, heat-damaged or colored hair (or want to prevent it from happening), you’ll probably benefit from adwoa’s Thermal Care Kit. Have curly, textured hair? Give their baomint collection a try!
This nutrient-rich, lightweight oil by Dehiya Beauty is a great multi-tasking hair, face, and body oil. It can be used as the first step in your routine for cleansing, or the last to help lock in moisture. Plus it smells amazing, and even serves as a natural bug repellent. Well worth the price tag!
For Your Face:
Formulated with clean, plant-based ingredients, this is a gentle but effective cleanser for daily use. Unconvinced? ANOVÉ offers a sample kit of their complete product line if you would like to give them a try before committing to any full-size versions.
The Frenshe team has talked about EADEM’s Cloud Cushion moisturizer before, and with good reason: it has an amazing, airy texture, is deeply hydrating, and was designed to prevent dark spots. While it may have been formulated with skin of color in mind, the Cloud Cushion repairs the skin barrier, brightens, and is suitable for all skin types.
Topicals’ products are formulated to help alleviate common issues like dry and textured skin, and dark spots. We’re big fans of their faded bundle to help with undereye circles, but definitely check out their best sellers if you need help in other areas!
If you’re still riding the Euphoria wave and obsessing over glittery, bold makeup, look no further than Stay Golden! Offering both lip and eye products, this is definitely the way to go for bold, unforgettable makeup looks that are bound to be the talk of the party.
If you’re in the market for a new foundation, you can’t go wrong with UOMA’s Say What?! range. Boasting a whopping 51 shades and six different formulas, chances are you can easily find the best color match for your skin tone. Feeling a little overwhelmed? You can use their quiz as a guide, or look for a tester at your local Ulta.
For Your Body:
Karité’s Crème Corps is a hydrating, fast-absorbing, whipped body cream that helps reinforce the skin’s barrier. It’s perfect for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and helps restore moisture to even the driest among them.
Looking for a new, non-toxic, aluminum-free deodorant? PiperWai offers both cream and stick options, and you can choose between scented and unscented. Best of all, the cream jar can be refilled if you’re looking to create less waste.
MOODEAUX is a best-selling indie fragrance label, and its clean scents are designed to build around the connection between smell, memories and emotion. Make this your new signature scent–because you’re Worthy.
Nails are porous surfaces, making it important that we pay attention to what we put on them so they are not absorbing toxins. With that in mind, CANDY x PAINTS’ creator Shardae Layfield set out to create a range of beautiful, long-lasting, vegan and non-toxic range of nail polishes. You can pick from their 31 original shades, or their limited edition collection. Pictured is Sugar Rush.
Our feet carry us throughout the day, but how often to really get around to treating them? Naturally London offers four foot soak blends to help you detox, cleanse and soothe. Make it part of a weekly or monthly ritual for relaxation!
The Honey Pot is a wonderful brand of non-toxic, organic feminine hygiene products for people who menstruate. Whether you’re looking to gift someone a first period kit or to upgrade the products you already use, we’re big fans of theirs here at Frenshe and highly recommend you check them out! Aside from cups, pads and tampons, you can also find washes, wipes, and supplements for vaginal health on their site.
From cult favorite hair care brand Bomba Curls, get these beauty-boosting bites to nourish your hair, skin and nails. With the perfect dose of biotin, folic acid and essential vitamins, it’ll help you unlock healthy hair growth, supple skin, and stronger nails, all in a delicious gummy.
