I Tried It: Linen Sheets for Restless Sleep

02.10.2023 — Sara Li

I Tried It is a monthly column where the Frenshe team tries all things wellness for ourselves—we want to be confident in what we recommend to the community, so follow along to see what our personal experiences in the world of health and beauty.

Anyone who has ever shared a bed with me (apologies to my partners in advance) knows that I am a difficult sleeper. For as long as I can remember, it’s been a Herculean task to get through the entire night without kicking, jostling, or waking. Last year, I saw a sleep doctor for my condition—shared by millions of other Americans, according to Sleep Education—because while I had no problem falling asleep, it was getting impossible to stay asleep.

Living in the city with no seasons (Los Angeles) hasn’t helped either. My distorted sleep definitely kicks up in the winter months when my body doesn’t know how to adjust between the temperamental weather. I tend to run hot when I’m sleeping, so it’s always been a challenge to find the right balance of staying just warm enough to avoid colds and staying cool enough to get through the night.

More often than not, I find myself waking up around 4am in discomfort because my cotton duvet cover (no matter how thin or quality) traps in the heat. Ashley suggested switching to linen sheets—she recommended Parachute, her go-to bed sets—because of the airy material. I swapped out my entire bed set up for their linen fabrics, made with flax linen and garment washed, to see it would help combat my sleep issues.

After exchanging my old sheets for Parachute’s popular linen sheets, I immediately noticed a difference. It was the first balance of being warm enough to be covered and still breathable enough for my body heat to escape. I’ve never had a bed set that’s so comfortable and functional before. I’m no longer waking up in the middle of the night in my own sweat (ew), so I’m more alert during the day.

Team Frenshe has always been big Parachute fans and after getting a full night’s rest, I can completely understand why. If you struggle with staying asleep during the night because of excess body heat, I highly recommend swapping out your regular sheets for Parachute’s linen set: they have pillowcases, fitted sheets, duvet covers, and more!
