The Ritual Diaries: Margot Lee

01.16.2023 — The Frenshe Editors

The Ritual Diaries is an editorial series where we talk to our favorite creators, experts, and change-makers about how they take care of themselves in a busy world.

This week, we spoke to Margot Lee, 24 and based in New York City, who recently launched @noparticularorder, a brand designed to make journaling feel more welcoming, playful, and personal. Journalers can fill in their No Particular Order Journal Volume 1 or follow along using prompts posted on the Instagram’s series “New Pages”, available for anyone at any time.

What is the first thing you do in the morning?

Realistically (and unfortunately), reach for my phone. In a perfect world, I’d get up, write 2-3 pages in my journal, and start the day with a walk. I guess I know where my “2023 Resolutions” list is starting…

How has your upbringing and environment shaped your understanding of wellness?

I grew up in a very “teach by example” household when it came to physical wellness which I’m eternally grateful for. The benefits of whole foods and exercise were never pushed onto my brothers or myself and we seemed to just pick up how my parents lived their own lives- in healthy moderation.

I do wish, however, there were more conversations about mental health growing up. I think I turned to journaling as an outlet early on, but it’s been refreshing to see my family lean into this as we’ve all gotten older and have had to face bigger and tougher conversations.

What makes you feel your best?

Getting everything out on paper. After I take time with my journal- even if it’s just a couple of minutes- I feel like a weight is lifted and I can move forward with more clarity, gratitude, and presence. If I want to have a good day, I need my journal in arms reach.

What has been the hardest part of your wellness journey—and how do you overcome it?

Accepting that mental health isn’t linear. No matter how well prepared I feel for the bad days, they will still come. I’m practicing giving myself grace and not feeling the need to squirm when I come face-to-face with those tougher emotions.

What is something you would like to see more of in the wellness world?

Non-gendered wellness products.

What is a ‘must-have’ product in your routine?

The nod-pod! I’m an 8+ hours of sleep type of girl and in noisy, bright NYC, I can use any help I can get to reach that goal.

How do you define ‘healthy’?

Balance and peace between your inner and outer self.

What is something you look forward to everyday?

Breakfast! I’ve been loosely following an intermittent fasting diet for the past six or so years, so by 11 AM, I love taking time to be intentional for my first meal of the day.

How do you reset yourself after a bad moment?

By not thinking of things as “bad moments”- just learning opportunities.

What is a ritual that brings you joy?

Snuggling with my family dog, Roo! She is full of love, compassion, and humor, so any time spent with her immediately puts me in a better mood x10000.

What is the last thing you do at night?

Fill up my humidifier and fluff my pillows. Happy sleep = happy girl.
