What I Do In A Day: Melissa Cohen, Being Frenshe’s Senior Brand Manager

08.26.2022 — The Frenshe Editors

In celebration of the launch of Being Frenshe (found exclusively at Target), we’re giving you a behind the scenes look into how the line got made. As the saying goes: it takes a village! We’re highlighting some of the folks who helped us bring Being Frenshe to life and how they get it done. Today, we’re featuring Melissa Cohen, Being Frenshe’s Senior Brand Manager, and what an average work day in her life looks like.

I am the Senior Brand Manager on Being Frenshe and I could not be more excited to be able to work on this brand alongside the amazing team here at Maesa. I have been in the beauty industry for 7 years and this has been by far my favorite brand to work on. I have a background in working with fragrance, so to be able to incorporate our mood-boosting scents into bath and body products has been the most rewarding and fun opportunity and I cannot wait to continue watching this brand come to life!

07:30am: Waking up, I… will either go to the gym to get the day started, or if I am headed into the office, the first thing I do is take a hot shower, with my favorite of the collection, the Citrus Amber Renewing Body Wash. Showers have always been the way I jump start my day, it’s honestly where I do my best thinking. Usually, my showers are accompanied by some music, which is how I usually start all of my days. Music has always brought me to my happy place, so incorporating it into my everyday routine feels only natural!

10:00am: To nourish myself, I… have never been one to eat breakfast during the week, but I do love a Kombucha or green juice in the morning! I am a vegetarian so I’m always trying to find meals that are more filling, and once I find my favorites, like the creature of habit I am, I go back (or make) again and again! I’ve been on a zucchini noodle and tomato sauce kick that I seriously could eat every day if I needed to.

11:45am: My favorite part of the job is when I… get to see people develop a love for the brand like I have! My job is to help make sure everyone has the ability to try a wellness brand that was developed on the pure basis of trying to make you feel better. We all have those days where nothing will help us feel good, but my favorite aspect of Being Frenshe is that it can at least help us feel better than we did before, even if its just for a minute or two. Knowing I get to work with so many people, especially Ashley and the rest of the Frenshe team, whose ethos is grounded in mental health is something I cherish. Being able to learn with the Frenshe community and all that it stands for, while also working on a beauty brand that supports its initiative is something I am so proud of.

12:00pm: To focus, I… put 30 minutes on my calendar every day at noon to take a break and disconnect. With working from home, it can sometimes be hard to step away and reset, so this time is super important to me. During this break, I’m either listening to my favorite playlist, Facetiming with my friends & their little ones (the cutest and best boost of energy) or even just cleaning up my apartment so that when the day is over, all I need to do is Netflix & chill.

03:00pm: I feel most fulfilled when I… realize how impactful these products truly are. When you work on a brand day to day, you sometimes forget the big picture on what the products stand for and why they exist. I’ve been sharing the products with my closest friends (who all love that I work in the beauty industry, almost as much as me) and when they tell me how much they love the product or that it turned their day around, is really such a special feeling. They have been loving the Milky Body Lotion! It also feels surreal when I see videos or posts on social media of people from all over the country saying how Being Frenshe has impacted their day, I have to pinch myself when I realize I had something to do with that!

6:00pm: To recharge for the next day… I try and get out for a walk as much as I can. I am unbelievably lucky that the NYC skyline is the backdrop to my little city across the river, so the views are an easy motivator to get me out of my apartment! Once I get back, I eat dinner and start my wind down routine. If I’m not already in sweats, I start by putting on my favorite pair with a tee. I usually settle on the couch, with my favorite Being Frenshe candle lit, and read my book or watch a show. I value letting my brain turn off and reset, so I try and keep my phone away so that I can make sure I have quality me time, which is really important for my mental health. I can be a night owl, so getting into bed is the official kick-off to getting some rest so that I can be ready for everything the next day has in store for me!
