My Official 2020 Recap

12.30.2020 — Ashley Tisdale-French

As we officially wrap up the rollercoaster ride that was 2020, I wanted to take some time to highlight some of the work we’ve done here at Frenshe. I can’t believe I launched this project in August and your support has been amazing! Seriously, I could not be happier that you’re all loving the site as much as I am. Here’s a little highlight reel of my favorite stories we’ve done this year—these were not easy to choose, because I obviously love all of them! Here’s to 2021!

The Truth About Body Shaming

I’ve gotten personal on Frenshe a lot, and I’ve let you guys in on my most true and authentic feelings on certain subjects. One of my favorite pieces to write was this one on body shaming. I think we’re so hard on each other and ourselves, and as a society we need to collectively support and cheer each other on a lot more. This year put a lot of things into perspective for me, and the biggest being that I shouldn’t judge myself so hard and that I should truly love and celebrate my body, after all it’s done for me. You should too!

Food Anxiety Around the Holidays

Holistic health coach, Jessica Nusbaum, wrote an incredible piece for the site about an issue that affects so many people. Having a healthy relationship with food doesn’t come naturally for everyone, and the holidays can really be a trigger for some. The piece explores how you can sit down at the holiday table, face your food anxiety head-on, and set boundaries. While we loved to spread the holiday cheer, it’s also important for us to acknowledge that it’s not always the happiest time for everyone and we can all work to be a better support system.

Upgrading Your Delivery Room Experience

My incredible doula, Lori Bregman, wrote a piece about tailoring your delivery room experience and stepping outside of a typical setting. She covers everything from lighting to scents and how so many different factors play into your mood on that day. After all, it’s one of the most special moments of your life so why not make it the best? I highly encourage all the mamas-to-be out there to check this one out if you haven’t already.

What It Means to Love Yourself

Why does self-love still seem like such a taboo topic? I chose to explore that in the early days of the site and let out all of my feelings into a post about how I learned to truly love myself over time. Like I’ve said many times, we’re our own worst critics, and while sometimes we’re constructive, other times we’re really hurting ourselves and our feelings. That needs to stop. We all deserve love, but we can’t love others until we truly love ourselves.

The Frenshe Community and Their Breast Cancer Stories

This time we turned the mic over to our community. The Frenshe readers got candid with us and shared some of their own experiences with breast cancer and it was truly the most touching and inspiring piece. I loved reading how so many of you stayed strong throughout living with or watching a loved one with the disease. Breast cancer affects so many women, and this was an important way for us to spread the message and share support.

Living with Anxiety

I got candid about my experience with anxiety. It’s something I’ve spoken about before, but I wanted to be open about it as soon as I took on this new venture because so many people are dealing with the same symptoms and emotions and there isn’t enough support out there. Unfortunately, anxiety is still not taken incredibly seriously by a lot of people, and those suffering feel too scared to be open and honest about their experience. It should not be this way! In this post, I dived into some of the things that helped with my anxiety, but professional help is always encouraged.
